Professional Certification for Equine Professionals
The Certification Board for Equine Interaction Professionals (CBEIP) is the premiere independent credentialing body for mental health professionals and educators who incorporate equine into their mental health, coaching or education practice and are seeking certification.
CBEIP Certification
CBEIP credentials equine interaction professional in two disciplines, Education and Mental Health.
Within the two, we offer two levels of credentialing: fully credentialed and provisionally credentialed.

CEIP Mental Health
The Certified Equine Interaction Professional (CEIP) credential for mental health professionals (CEIP-MH) indicates verification of extensive professional experience and independent assessment of knowledge for incorporating equine interactions within therapy practice..
CEIP Education
The Certified Equine Interaction Professional (CEIP) credential for educators, coaches and other learning professionals (CEIP-ED) indicates verification of extensive professional experience and independent assessment of knowledge for incorporating equine interactions within your work.
CEIP Provisional
Provisional Certification is a great option for those new to the field who have been taking courses, workshops, or engaged in training in a specific method/model but haven’t yet accumulated the client hours and/or direct facilitation hours.
Examination is part of the CEIP-ED and CEIP-MH credentialling process. Candidates are able to take the proctored exam remotely at their convenience within 30 days of their approval for the examination. Candidates for recertification may also take the exam in lieu of CEU’s.
The multiple choice exam questions for both exams are designed by equine interaction professionals practicing in North America and the test content undergoes a regular review process. Questions are reviewed for construction, accuracy, and appropriateness by the members of the Certification Board for Equine Interaction Professionals, and the passing score for the examinations are determined using recognized psychometric methods.
About Certification
The Certified Equine Interaction Professional (CEIP) credential indicates verification of extensive professional experience and independent assessment of knowledge for incorporating equine interactions within professional services. The credential does not represent a single method or approach, but instead helps others recognize professional knowledge and experience. While the CBEIP cannot warrant the performance of any individual certificant, board certification in equine interactions provides recognition of significant experience and knowledge.
There are four certifications offered by the CBEIP, two provisional certifications (CEIP-PED and CEIP-PMH) and two certifications for fully credentialed professionals (CEIP-ED and CEIP-MH). All certifications are issued for three years. Provisional certificants may apply for recertification once while fully credentialed professionals are able to continue to recertify. Recertification requires submission of documentation of continuing educations units as part of the recredentialing process to obtain recertification
